The chiefs and people of Sirigu, in the Kassena-Nankana West District of the Upper East Region, have formally expressed their heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for appointing their son, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, as the District Chief Executive (DCE).
At a press conference held on behalf of the Sirigu Traditional Council, a statement delivered in the name of Azukodaana, Naba Atogumdeya Roland Akwara III, Paramount Chief of Sirigu, lauded the President for recognising the potential of the youth and choosing a native of Sirigu for such a significant leadership position.
“We are gathered here today to say a big thank you to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for his choice of our esteemed son – Honourable Stephen Aeke Akurugo – to the high office of DCE. This decision reflects the President’s commitment to nurturing youthful talents from all corners of the nation,” the statement read.
The appointment was described as a major milestone for the community, instilling pride and renewed hope among the people. The chiefs and elders expressed strong confidence in Mr Akurugo’s vision, integrity, and dedication to serve the district with distinction.
The Traditional Council also commended the government for continuing key infrastructure projects that were initiated by previous administrations. Among the notable achievements highlighted were the completion of the BOST Culvert Bridge, which links Sirigu to Bolgatanga via Zorko, and ongoing drainage works at the Sirigu market.

“We are happy to announce that vehicles are now using the Sirigu-Zorko road to Bolgatanga, greatly reducing travel time—especially for patients referred to the regional hospital,” the statement said.
The Traditional Council further extended its gratitude to the Upper East Regional Minister, the Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), other traditional leaders, the Member of Parliament, constituency executives, and assembly members who supported Mr Akurugo’s nomination and subsequent confirmation.
The people of Sirigu, through the statement, pledged their unwavering support to Mr Akurugo and the government, reaffirming their commitment to promoting peace, development, and prosperity within the district.
