Africa Institute on Governance and Security commends Mahama’s Code of Conduct for public officers

The Africa Institute on Governance and Security (AIGS) has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for launching the Code of Conduct for public officers.

According to the Institute, the Code of Conduct will significantly aid in guiding government officials and restoring sanity to the public sector by instilling in duty bearers a sense of ethical leadership and accountability.

In a statement issued on Monday, May 5, 2025, Executive Director of the Institute, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, who was Government’s spokesperson on Governance and Security under the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration said “this visionary initiative underscores Ghana’s commitment to fostering transparency, integrity, and good governance, which are critical pillars for sustainable development and public trust.”

The statement noted that with the implementation of these principles, President Mahama has paved the way for strengthened governance structures that will enhance accountability, curb corruption, and promote inclusive development across Ghana.

The Institute believes this initiative will not only inspire other African nations but also contribute to the broader agenda of building resilient and transparent governance systems across the continent.

“We applaud President Mahama’s leadership and encourage all stakeholders to support the effective implementation of this transformative policy,” AIGS added.

The Code of Conduct, launched by President Mahama on Monday, May 5, 2025, prohibits public officials from accepting gifts and purchasing state assets, among other guidelines meant to guide how public officials should behave.
