Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites, kicked off their 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign in Egypt with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening Group C match.
The match got off to a cautious start, with both teams feeling each other out.
However, the Congolese team struck first, with captain Samuel Ntanda-Lukisa scoring a thumping header in the 15th minute, beating goalkeeper Gidios Aseako with a well-placed finish.
But Ghana responded swiftly, with Dreams FC’s teenage sensation Musibau Aziz equalizing just 10 minutes later.
Aziz connected with a precise cross from Emmanuel Mensah, launching an attack from the left side of Ghana’s frontline, and levelled the score at 1-1 going into the break.

Despite both teams creating scoring opportunities, neither could find the back of the net in the second half, resulting in a 1-1 stalemate at full time.
Abdul Hakim Sulemana was named Man of the Match after his impressive performance for the West African giants.
This result mirrors the 1-1 draw between Senegal and Central African Republic (CAR) in the other Group C match, leaving the group wide open.
The Black Satellites face next defending champions Senegal in a tricky clash on Monday, while DR Congo takes on Central African Republic in the other group game.
A favorable result in their next match would put Ghana in a strong position to qualify for the next round of the competition.
