
The Ghana Grid Company Ltd. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana have announced that due to a system disturbance, there is a loss of power supply to some customers.
This is contained in a press release dated May 1.
“The disturbance occurred at 1:42 pm on Thursday 1st May, 2025, when a tipper truck discharging stones at a private developer’s construction site near our Nkawkaw – Konongo Transmission Line, lifted its bucket into the line conductor, damaging the line and causing the disturbance,” the statement reads.
According to the press release, “This incident caused all power plants at Aboadze and Anwomaso to trip, taking off supply to the Western, Central and Northern parts of the country, as well as some customers in Accra.”
“Our engineers have mobilised to the location to repair the damaged transmission line and work is on-going to restore all affected areas by 6pm today,” they assured.
ECG and GRIDCO apologised “for the inconvenience this incident has caused.”
Meanwhile, the Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor has acknowledged the challenges confronting the country, particularly frequent power outages frustrating citizens nationwide.
Mr Jinapor admitted that power issues have long plagued the nation, emphasizing that the current administration inherited significant energy problems from its predecessor.
Speaking in an interview with Happy Fm, Mr Jinapor stressed that regardless of issues within agencies like ECG, GRIDCo, or the Energy Commission, it is responsibility to resolve the challenges
