Government says it will not deny communities with immotorable roads, with a concentration on the building of asphalted roads in other parts of the country.
Roads Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza insists that a kilometre of an asphalted road constructed would suffice for constructing motorable roads in areas that are inaccessible.
Meanwhile, construction of the 5.6 kilometre Komenda township road that covers the sugar factory road has commenced after months of delay following government plans to operationalise the factory.
The Road Minister was speaking at the palace of the paramount chief of Komenda, Okatayi Komeh VII, on Tuesday, April 29.
The traditional leader had told him that “We have always desired the construction of a very good road but we are requesting that the road minister conduct the road and lay asphalt on it for us. This will prevent the numerous accidents on the road. ”
In a response to him, the Road Minister said “Asphalt look better than surface tension but Nana, as I am here, I am the Road Minister, if I were to invite you to my home town Adaklu Kordiabe, you may not be able to come because it is probably one of the most terrible roads in the country, not that I am the proud of it, all my people have been looking for is access, they don’t care whether it is surface dressing or asphalt.
“Asphalt costs three or four times the cost of surface dressing. In reality, we would have to lay asphalt at the doorstep of everybody, but anytime we lay one kilometer of asphalt, we have denied another people three kilometers of surface dressing, which is equally good.”
