Otumfuo informed about death of Mamponghene Daasebre Osei Bonsu II

The Asante Bretuo Royal Family of Asante Mampong has officially informed the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of the demise of Dasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong and second-in-command of the Asante Kingdom.

A traditional delegation, led by the Mamponghemaa (Queen Mother) Nana Afrakoma Dufie, conveyed the sad news to the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace, in accordance with Asante customs.

The Queen Mother disclosed that Dasebre Osei Bonsu II joined his ancestors on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born Oswald Saith Gyimah, Dasebre Osei Bonsu II served as the Registrar of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) before ascending to the Mampong stool in 1997 and reigned for over two decades.

Following the announcement, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II directed the Mampong Traditional Council to officially observe the customary rites, including the ceremonial beating of drums, to formally announce the Chief’s passing as tradition demands.
