Defence Minister, Dr. Omane Boamah, has criticized former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for attributing the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 elections to factors beyond his control.
Dr. Bawumia amongst other reasons has recently cited the incomplete National Cathedral project and the associated expenditure of $58 million as significant contributors to the party’s electoral loss, arguing that it eroded public trust.
However, Dr. Boamah, in a social media post, countered these claims, asserting that Dr. Bawumia is shifting blame instead of taking responsibility for the NPP’s economic performance.
“Elections 2024: Bawumia is blaming everything & everybody EXCEPT HIMSELF. Bawumia was critical for NPP’s economic mess!” Dr. Boamah wrote, directly challenging the Vice President’s narrative.
This statement comes amidst growing scrutiny of Dr. Bawumia’s role in the NPP’s economic management, especially given his position as the head of the Economic Management Team.
Critics, including Dr. Boamah, argue that the economic challenges faced by Ghana under the NPP’s tenure significantly contributed to their electoral defeat.
The public discourse surrounding the NPP’s loss continues to intensify, with key figures like Dr. Boamah publicly challenging the explanations offered by Dr. Bawumia.
