“There’s no future without the present. There’s no present without the past,” these were profound words spoken at the 2025 CAF African Schools U15 Championship draw, the third edition, in Accra on Monday.
Languages are different, cultures are alike but the identity and unifier of Africa remains unchanged; football.
Since the inception of the CAF Schools Championship in 2023, more than 1,965,000 boys and girls from 46 countries have participated in the programme, making it the most successful youth sport mobilization movement in Africa.
So, it is understandable why Ghanaian football legend Asamoah Gyan, the conductor of the male draw, took a deep breath before he began the official draw.
Still celebrating the resurrection of Christ – clad in his white apparel – Gyan’s languid demeanour ahead of the draw echoed.
His cursory nod and beaming smile when the cameras panned on him was contagious.
The draw is a forgone conclusion, though. It’s time to assiduously focus on opportunities and financial benefits.
What’s at stake ?
“This is a very big platform for me. I’ve always looked for avenues to display my sports interest, Belinda Nketiah, a young reporter under going training, remarked.
“It is a great opportunity, meeting and networking with journalists across Africa, David Dzaku, another young reporter, added.
The refrain of gratitude bellows across the various sub groups.
For the kids involved, oppulence could not have been this close.
In partnership with the Motsepe Foundation that donated $10 million, CAF has been able to use the prize money for legacy projects in schools, building numerous infrastructures.
The winner is assured a whooping $ 300 000, runners-up $200,000 while second runners-up receive $ 150,000.
On the pitch, players are provided with an opportunity to move higher up the ranks in their respective nations.
The tournament is expected to start on Wednesday in an excitement-drenched atmosphere at the University of Ghana Stadium.
