President John Dramani Mahama has reappointed Dr. George Smith-Graham as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
Dr. Smith-Graham, the inaugural CEO of the Commission who served with distinction from 2009 to 2017, is set to officially resume his leadership role today, Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
His appointment marks a transition from the leadership of Mr. Benjamin Arthur, a respected figure in labour relations who guided the FWSC from January 2022 until this week.
The confirmation of this pivotal change in leadership came directly from Madam Emelia Ennin Abbey, the Head of Public Affairs at the FWSC, in a statement to the media.
Madam Ennin Abbey indicated that further details regarding Dr. Smith-Graham’s vision for the Commission would be shared following his assumption of office.
Dr. Smith-Graham’s previous tenure was marked by his instrumental role in the implementation of the landmark Single Spine Salary Structure, a cornerstone of the FWSC Act, 2007 (Act 737).
His return comes at a crucial juncture as the government outlines plans to transform the FWSC into an Independent Emoluments Commission. With an impressive track record spanning over thirty years in compensation management, public service reforms, and strategic leadership, Dr. Smith-Graham is exceptionally well-placed to navigate the anticipated reforms.
