Bibiani Gold Stars kept their title dreams alive with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Medeama SC, extending their impressive home run and tightening their grip at the top of the Ghana Premier League table.
In a tense encounter, the breakthrough came deep into stoppage time when top scorer Samuel Atta Kumi calmly converted a late penalty to seal all three points for the hosts.
It was redemption for Gold Stars, who had earlier squandered a spot-kick through Vincent Atingah early in the second half.
The first 45 minutes saw Gold Stars dominate proceedings but struggle to beat Medeama goalkeeper Felix Kyei, who pulled off several key saves to keep the game level at halftime.
As the clock ticked down, it looked like the match was heading for a draw until a last-gasp penalty gave Attah Kumi the chance to make the difference and he did just that.
The goal marked his 10th of the season and underlined his importance to Gold Stars’ title chase.
Now sitting atop the table with 53 points, Gold Stars are two clear of second-placed Nations FC, setting up a thrilling six-game sprint to the finish.
The title race is heating up and it’s shaping into a fierce two-horse battle.
