
The Ghana National Fire Service has revealed that over 150 wooden structures were destroyed in the fire outbreak at Madina Redco flats on April 18.
This is contained in an update issued on April 19 the Head of Public Relations at the Headquarters, Divisional Officer Two (DO II)
Desmond Ackah.
“A devastating fire broke out near the Madina Redco flats at 11:15 p.m. last night, involving 140 multiple wooden and 20 metal structures used for both commercial and residential purposes. Firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived at 11:17 p.m., with support from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and Headquarters,” he stated.
“At 12:02 a.m., this morning, the fire which was met at its fully developed stage was confined, and fully contained at 2:22 a.m. Over 150 structures and their contents were totally destroyed, and sadly, a Nigerian young lady named Beauty who is believed to be in her early twenties got trapped in the fire and lost her life,” Mr Ackah announced.
“Her charred body has been handed over to the Madina Police for preservation and further investigation,” the PRO said.
He added that, “The adept firefighters managed to save over 200 nearby structures including the Redco flats. The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
