Ghana’s biggest telecommunication network, MTN on Thursday donated an amount of Gh¢100,000 and a hamper worth Gh¢5,000 to His Royal Majesty, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The donation, according to MTN, is their token to support the 20th anniversary celebration of His Majesty ascending the Golden Stool.
The Manhyia Palace has drawn a detailed programme to celebrate the king; a programme which has received massive response from individuals, businesses and corporate Ghana.
Addressing journalists after a presentation to the Asantehene, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN, Selorm Adadevoh mentioned: “Today we came to honour a commitment we made to the Asantehene last year to support the 20th anniversary of his enstoolment and as part of our honouring his invitation, we brought a Gh¢100,000 and a hamper worth Gh¢5,000.”
“For us it’s a big event and if you look at the work that Otumfuo has done here with his team, we’re proud to be partners and eager to support. Our brand message is #WeDey4U and #EverywhereYouGo so we want to be everywhere in a significant way”, Mr. Adadevoh stressed.
“Otumfuo and the Asante kingdom are the pre-eminent kingdoms in the country and secondly this is an important region and we think about our customers and give them the best”.
The MTN Ghana boss revealed: “The Asantehene commended us for the great work that we’ve done in partnership with the Manhyia Palace and all the other products we’ve done in the Ashanti kingdom.”
He made special mention of sponsoring the Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, the Juaso Women Palm Oil, providing seamless internet connectivity for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), building an ultra-modern maternity facility at the Ejisu Hospital among other projects.
Mr. Adadevoh added: “Otumfuo urged us to continue the great work and also continue to support employment, economic growth and socio-economic development.”
The MTN Ghana CEO was accompanied by some top officials of the institution to the Manhyia Palace to do the presentation.
The 20th anniversary celebration is further aimed at showcasing the successes chalked by His Royal Majesty in areas of conflict resolution, education, socio-economic development, health and also to deepen the rich cultural heritage of the Asante kingdom.
