Information gathered by ultimatefmonline.com indicates an abandoned female dormitory of the Akrokerri College of Education, has now been taken over by snakes and other reptiles.
The student abode which construction started in the year 2016 has now been left unattended to there by becoming the home of creepy creatures.
The current situation has forced the over 200 female students on campus to go strenuous situation at nearby hostel that do not present comfort for students.
In the 2018/2019 academic year, a total number of applicants who applied for the Akrokerri College of Education were 2,294 of which 1,074 were females but out of this figure only 174 gained admission representing 10% for girls enrollment in the school because the girls dormitory which should have been completed by now has been abandoned citing lack of funds.
The Principal for the Akrokerri College of Education, Dr Emmanuel Nyamekye in an interview revealed that current state of affairs is affecting teaching and learning.
He said authorities at the college are very much concerned about the uncompleted dormitory as further delays will put more pressure on limited accommodation in and around the school.
‘‘The project if left unattended, by 2019/2020 academic year, the school will have to reduce the number of intake from 175 which is a big worry for the school and the country as a whole. Government must come in to support through the national council for tertiary education to improve upon the infrastructural facilities in Akrokerri College so as to enable the college admit more students than it had hitherto been the case’’ he said.
‘‘I wish to fervently appeal to the GET-fund, to makes funds available to the contractor so as to enable him complete the project. We need the facility to house our female student’’, he opined.
