The Ministry of Works and Housing has announced that the maiden edition of the Built Environment National Conference on Housing and Hydrology, dubbed BENCHH 2024, is scheduled to take place from the 27 to 29 of May 2024.
At an official media launch of the initiative yesterday in Accra, the Advisor to the sector Minister and Chairman of the BENCHH 2024 Planning Committee, Dr Prince Hamid Armah, said the conference holds immense significance as stakeholders meet to deliberate on the pressing challenges in the sector.
He indicated that it would further enhance the Ministry’s collaborative efforts towards tackling Ghana’s housing and hydrology challenges.
The conference is under the theme “Enhancing Collaboration to tackle Ghana’s Housing and Hydrology Challenge”.
Aims
Dr. Hamid Armah said it is aimed establishing a comprehensive platform to engage with the wider public especially stakeholders within the built environment.
He added that it would showcase the strides made by the Ministry of Works and Housing in recent years, and outline its roadmap towards achieving its vision of a robust and sustainable development of public works and housing infrastructure in the medium term.
Additionally, he mentioned that the conference would delve into challenges and solutions within the sector, including the housing deficit, flood management, and infrastructure financing.
“As you may be aware, the policy formulation and its subsequent efficient implementation stand as the fundamental pillars upon which a nation’s development is built,” he stated.
In this respect, he said the role of the Ministry of Works and Housing in guaranteeing and safeguarding the establishment of sustainable housing and infrastructure developments cannot be overemphasized.
Mandate
According to him, the Ministry is mandated not only to develop sound policies but also supervise their effective execution, ensuring that they translate into improvements in the lives of the people.
“From addressing the housing deficit to enhancing our flood resilient infrastructure and regulations, the Ministry’s efforts are linked to various sectors, driving socio-economic progress, and enhancing the overall quality of life for citizens.
“Thus, recognizing the Ministry’s diverse responsibilities highlights the importance of its endeavors in shaping the path of national development,” he added.
He said BENCHH 2024 represents an opportunity for everyone to share insights and chart a course towards a more sustainable and resilient future for Ghana’s Works and Housing sectors.
“Together, through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions, we can surmount the challenges present and pave the way for enduring progress and prosperity in the nation,” he indicated.
He, therefore, called on stakeholders to mark their calendars for the 27th to the 29th of May.
