Barcelona crush Real Madrid 5-2 to claim 15th Spanish Super Cup in style

Barcelona claimed their 15th Supercopa de España title in emphatic fashion, defeating Real Madrid 5-2 in a thrilling and heated final at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. 

The match delivered a spectacle of the highest quality, with Barcelona surging to a commanding 4-1 lead by halftime. Despite a promising start from Hansi Flick's Real Madrid, their early advantage was undone within minutes. Kylian Mbappé's precise finish into the bottom corner put Madrid ahead just five minutes in, following a swift and incisive counter-attack. 

However, Madrid's lead lasted only 17 minutes. Barcelona's rising star, Lamine Yamal, levelled the score with a composed low finish to the far post. Minutes later, Eduardo Camavinga's foul on Gavi resulted in a penalty, which Robert Lewandowski converted confidently to give Barcelona the lead. Raphinha extended the advantage with a powerful header, leaving Carlo Ancelotti's side reeling. Barcelona’s relentless attack added a fourth goal in stoppage time, with Alejandro Balde lashing a stunning left-footed strike past Thibaut Courtois. 

The second half saw further drama, as Raphinha scored his second goal of the match, capitalising on a brilliant pass from Casado to make it 5-1. Moments later, Madrid had a brief resurgence as Rodrygo struck the frame of the goal with a volley. But any hope of a comeback was hampered when VAR confirmed a foul by Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szcz?sny on Mbappé just outside the box, resulting in Szcz?sny’s dismissal. 

Rodrygo converted the subsequent free kick with a spectacular strike, reducing the deficit to 5-2. Despite playing with a man advantage for the final 34 minutes, Real Madrid failed to capitalise, creating few meaningful chances against a resolute Barcelona defence. 

This victory marks Barcelona's second Supercopa triumph in three years, with both wins coming at the expense of their fierce rivals. The Blaugrana once again demonstrated their dominance in Spanish football, while Real Madrid was left to reflect on another El Clásico disappointment.
