The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to faith-based organisations and individuals against spreading misinformation, disinformation, or prophecies likely to incite fear, cause panic, or endanger lives during the New Year period.
In a statement, the Police cautioned that “the publication of such prophecies is not only irresponsible but could have serious consequences on public safety.” They urged everyone to exercise restraint and ensure their actions promote peace and security across the country.
To enhance public safety, the Police have intensified residential and highway patrols to safeguard lives and property. Traffic officers have also been deployed at major intersections and public roads to ensure smooth vehicular movement and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
“Particular attention will be given to areas hosting large social, entertainment, and religious gatherings during tonight’s crossover celebrations,” the Police stated.
Security will also be provided at faith-based events and social gatherings nationwide, with additional measures in place to protect vital infrastructure and prevent disruptions or security breaches.
The Police expressed their gratitude to Ghanaians for their cooperation and support throughout the year, which they said had significantly contributed to maintaining peace, security, and order.
“As we approach the New Year, we wish everyone, especially Ghanaians and visitors experiencing our homeland for the first time, a prosperous and peaceful 2025,” the statement concluded.
This assurance from the Ghana Police Service underscores their commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all during the festive season and beyond.
For the past few years, the Ghana Police Service, under the leadership of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has taken a strong stance against the previously uncontrolled spread of fear and panic by some religious leaders. These individuals often publicly declare prophecies—primarily death-related—about notable people, causing undue alarm.
The Police’s continued vigilance reflects their determination to maintain public order and discourage actions that undermine national peace.
