- Lizza was one of the magazine's most prominent journalists.
- He said he was "dismayed" at The New Yorker's decision.
The New Yorker on Monday announced that it had cut ties with high-profile political reporter Ryan Lizza because of what it characterized as "improper sexual conduct."
"The New Yorker recently learned that Ryan Lizza engaged in what we believe was improper sexual conduct. We have reviewed the matter and, as a result, have severed ties with Lizza. Due to a request for privacy, we are not commenting further," the magazine said in a statement.
CNN, where Lizza is a political analyst, also issued a statement on Monday saying he would not appear on the air while the network investigates allegations.
"We have just learned of the New Yorker's decision. Ryan Lizza will not appear on CNN while we look into this matter," a network spokesperson said.
In a statement, Lizza said he was "dismayed" that The New Yorker chracterized "a respectful relationship with a woman I dated as somehow inappropriate."
"The New Yorker was unable to cite any company policy that was violated," he said. "I am sorry to my fiends, workplace colleagues, and loved ones for any embarrassment this episode may cause. I love The New Yorker, my home for the last decade, and I have the highest regard for the people who work there. But this decision, which was made hastily and without a full investigation of the relevant facts, was a terrible mistake."
Lizza has been one of the most high-profile political journalists in America for years, writing lengthy profiles about former President Barack Obama, among others.
Earlier this year, Lizza reported on an expletive-filled conversation he had with President Donald Trump's then-communications director Anthony Scaramucci that preceded his departure from the White House after just one week.
