The Thornton Police Department confirmed the shooting on its Twitter account. The Thornton Police Department also said on its Twitter account that the incident was not considered an "active shooter" situation, but an active crime scene.
FBI, ATF, and Aurora SWAT members responded to assist local police officers, NBC 9 reported.
Witnesses said they heard multiple shots at the Walmart, and videos of the scene show an empty store with uniformed police officers nearby.
The shopping center contains several stores and restaurants, according to The Denver Post. Police warned people to stay away from the area.
