A 40-year-old driver, Joseph Aidoo, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢400, 000 with two sureties, justified with title deeds equivalent to the bail amount, by the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Susana Eduful.
The accused, who is facing multiple charges related to narcotics and unregistered medicines, has not yet taken his plea.
According to the prosecution led by Chief Inspector Abel Amanie, Aidoo was arrested on April 28, 2025, during an intelligence-led operation at his drinking spot in Kpone Adom Estate, Tema.
A search of the premises led to the discovery of a significant quantity of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs, including: 294 silver foil wraps of whitish rocky substance, 50 brown paper wraps and 30 plain rubber wraps of dried plant material and 12 dispensary rubber wraps and a plain rubber bag containing dried plant material.
The rest are 17 plastic bottles with suspected laced liquid substances, 3 compressed oval hard brown toffees, 55 gold foil wraps and 89 pink paper wraps of whitish powdery substance and 12 thumb-sized plain rubber wraps of whitish rocky substance.
In addition to the suspected drugs, the prosecution revealed the discovery of unregistered pharmaceutical products for sale, including Timaking 120mg, Tafrotadol caps 120mg, Taramaking 250mg, and Tramaking x225mg — all banned by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).
Aidoo admitted ownership of the substances in his caution statement and named one “Kwame of Tema” as his supplier. He also disclosed the selling prices of the drugs, ranging from GH¢10 to GH¢30 per wrap.
He is charged with Unlawful Control of Narcotic Drugs contrary to Section 37 (1)(2)(b) of the Narcotics Control Commission Act, 2020 (Act 1019), and Offering for Sale Unregistered Medicine contrary to Section 2(a) of E.I. 167, 2018, and Sections 118(1) and 129 of the Public Health Act, 2012 (Act 851).
The court has ordered that the original title deeds of the sureties be deposited at the court registry until the final determination of the case. The case has been adjourned to June 25, 2025, for the prosecution to present the forensic report on the suspected drugs.
