The Immediate-Past Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, has called on the citizenry to support Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, the Upper East Regional Peace Council and other stakeholders in their mediation efforts to foster peace in the Bawku enclave.

He noted that Conflict Resolution is not an “easy thing”, especially when dealing with a conflict that has several decades of history, stressing that one needs to be tactful.
Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi said there are people with the set of skills to mediate this type of issues appropriately, hence the call to support such eminent personalities to enable them bring their professionalism to play to get the best out of the situation.
Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi made the call, last Tuesday, on the sidelines of the Ghana Baptist Convention (GBC) 2025 Ministers’ Conference held at GBC’s Women Resource and Retreat Center at Ejura in Ashanti Region.

He further explained that though the president has appointed the Asantehene as the mediator of the conflict, the Regional Peace Council (Upper East), with other stakeholders are on the ground, working to de-escalate issues so that Otumfuo’s mediation succeeds.
Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi also urged the media to be circumspect in their reportage by avoiding fanning the conflict towards sustaining peace.
Touching on the Galamsey (illegal mining) menace, Rev. Adu-Gyamfi indicated that it is time to recognise the canker as a National problem and refrain from politicising it.
He advised that both parties come together and devise mechanisms to eradicate the canker.
He noted that galamsey activities paved the way for unscrupulous individuals to add to the dangers of the menace and threaten the security of the nation.
“We all must endeavour to eradicate galamsey by exploring expedient ways to mine because it is destroying our water bodies, forest reserves, and soil and does not help the growth of crops”, Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi said.
On the issue of the Repeal or Amendment of the Legislative Instrument (L. I.) 2462, Rev. Dr. Adu-Gyamfi disclosed that is a legal-related issue and entreated Parliamentarians to analyse the L.I. critically and give its right interpretation.
According to Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, political parties need to sit together and analyse the canker constructively and stop blaming each other, but to make the best out of the precious minerals the country is endowed with.
