Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Mr Abu said there was a system collating the results and was shocked on the night when he saw the public votes for some of the categories.
“There were three systems, the mobile voting, social media voting and academy voting. After the verification, some minutes before the show began I was shocked at some of the votes, all I could do was shout,” he added.
Mr. Abdulai Abu explained that there was nothing that could be done on the night to change the winners of the awards.
He added some awards like Album of the Year and Video of the Year was based solely on the academy voting.
“Public voting help Shatta Wale win most of the awards he won because he lost when it came to Academy voting,” he explained.
The founder, however, could not see the final winners because he had been rushed to the hospital after he blacked out, minutes before the show began.
He also debunked rumours the awards were for acts who only performed on the night.
Shatta Wale, Adina, Joey B, Kofi Mole, Bethel Revival Choir and Rocky Dawuni were among acts performed and also won awards.
Mr Abu stated there were acts who won awards but did not win an award, “It is no secret that Kwesi Arthur and the scheme are not really cool but he won an award and did not perform. Also, Stonebwoy was not at the event but he also won an award.”
He admitted, he and his team did not get some things right and apologised to the general public for some of the disappointments that occurred.
The 3Music Awards founder said he and his team are willing to also revise the percentage they are giving to the public after some industry players have addressed the issue with public voting and how unfair it sometimes is to other acts.
“We want the feedback because it will help us up our game next year. We are also willing to listen to anyone who is genuinely interested in having a conversation with us,” he stated.
