Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford was left fuming on Saturday after his team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Nations FC in the Ghana Premier League.
In a Week 13 fixture of the 2025/26 league campaign played at Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, Lions scored first, but Nations FC rallied from behind to secure all three points.
Speaking in his post-match interview, Bashir Hayford slammed the senior players in his team, accusing them of being complacent and letting the team down.
“I think because of the winning we are winning my top players, they call themselves senior players. I think they are joking. I should put them on their feet. The complacency is too much, and that’s why we lost. Honestly, my so-called experienced players have let me down,” the experienced tactician said.
Coach Hayford added, “I’m very disappointed. We have had the opportunity to jump to the top five times, and honestly, anytime we get the opportunity, we mess up. We have to go to the drawing board.”
After the setback on the road, Heart of Lions will look to regroup to get back to winning ways next weekend when they take on Bibiani Gold Stars on matchday 14.
