Former Ghana international Emmanuel Boateng finally opened his account for the 2025-26 season, but it came in a losing effort as Gaziantep FK went down 2-1 to Eyupspor at the Kalyon Stadium on Saturday evening.
The 29-year-old forward netted a stoppage-time goal to provide a late consolation for his side after a game dominated by the visitors.
Turkish forward Umut Bozok gave Eyupspor the lead in the 10th minute, converting a penalty kick with precision to set the tone for the encounter.
Despite Gaziantep’s efforts to respond, it was Eyupspor who doubled their advantage in the 88th minute, courtesy of a goal from substitute Halil Akbunar.
Boateng, however, showed his class in the dying moments of the game. The former Levante and Dalian Professional forward connected with a clever pass from Romanian midfielder Deian Sorescu, slotting the ball past the goalkeeper to finally break his scoring duck for the season.
The goal marked his first in nine appearances since the start of the campaign.
Ghanaian compatriot Prince Obeng Ampem was introduced late for Eyupspor, replacing Mame Thiam in the 85th minute, but the substitution did little to alter the outcome.
The 2025-26 Super Lig season continues to test the consistency of Ghanaian players abroad, but Boateng’s opener suggests he is ready to contribute more in the matches ahead.
