Ghana's 2026 World Cup qualifier against Madagascar relocated to Morocco
Ghana's upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Madagascar has been relocated from Antananarivo to the northern Moroccan city of Al Hoceima. The Group I fixture, initially scheduled to take place in the Malagasy capital, has been moved to a neutral venue due to the unapproved status of Madagascar's national stadium. The game, set to be played on Monday, March 24, 2025, will now be held at the Grand Stade d'Al Hoceima in Morocco. This decision comes just three days after the Black Stars' home encounter against Chad, which is slated for the Accra Sports Stadium on March 21.For Ghana's head coach, Otto Addo, this fixture will mark the team's first game of the year, as they look to bounce back from a dismal 2024 campaign. The Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted by Morocco, after a winless run in the qualification group stage.Currently, Ghana sits joint-top of Group I alongside Comoros, having amassed nine points from four games.Their victories against Madagascar, Mali, and Central African Republic, coupled with a loss to Comoros, have kept them in contention for a spot in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
