We've not fully learnt from May 9 Accra Sports Stadium disaster â?? Nations FC CEO
Nations FC CEO Kwame Twumasi-Danquah has expressed disappointment in Ghanas football authorities, stating that the country has not fully implemented safety measures recommended after the tragic May 9, 2001, Accra Sports Stadium disaster. His comments come in the wake of the violent death of Francis Yaw Pooley Frimpong, an ardent Asante Kotoko supporter, during clashes at the Nana Konamansah Park on Matchday 19 of the Ghana Premier League.Frimpongs murder highlights ongoing concerns about security at football matches in Ghana, with Twumasi-Danquah pointing to the nations failure to adequately address the lapses that led to the deaths of 126 24 years ago.I think as a nation, I think weve not done exactly what the committee wanted us to do. Weve done part of it and weve neglected part of it. That is my thinking.I cant remember the exact content of the reports, but I think some of it weve not done.I think we need to go back and have a second look at it and if there are some things that will be helpful for us to develop our game, I think we should quickly go back to it and start to apply them because this is something which shouldnt happen again. Its something which shouldnt happen again. So going forward I think we should revisit the report and see the things that we are not dealing with so that we can start to work on them.
