The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has condemned the growing violence in football, stressing that no life should be lost over a game intended for entertainment and unity.His remarks follow the tragic death of a fan during Asante Kotokos Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC.Dr. Dampare made the statement during a meeting with Asante Kotokos management at the clubs secretariat, where he reiterated the police services commitment to supporting investigations into the incident.He emphasized that football should foster community bonds and unity rather than become a source of conflict.We cannot allow another life to be lost over a game meant for entertainment, he said. Football, especially at the national level, has the power to bring us together. Even at the local level, it fosters unity.So lets approach football for what it truly is: a game to be enjoyed, a game to unite us, and a game that enriches our humanity, he added.The incident occurred at Nana Koramansah Park on Matchday 19, where a dedicated Kotoko fan, known as Pooley, lost his life after an on-field altercation escalated.The police have promised a full investigation to ensure justice and prevent future tragedies in Ghanaian football.
