Astute football commentator Ray Hudson has descended heavily on referee Daniel Bennett for his woeful performance in Ghana’s penultimate World Cup qualifier against Uganda in Kampala on Saturday.
Hudson, a retired midfielder, who once starred in Premier League for Newcastle United, is absolutely livid the South African official with all his experience acted as the 12th man for the Cranes and denied the Black Stars victory in the tight game.
The depleted Stars put on a decent performance and should have won had officiating been fair at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.
First of all, a clear penalty in the early stages of the second half was not awarded after Frank Acheampong was impeded in the box by rushing Cranes defender.
But Kwesi Appiah's charges did not let that deter them as they continued to push for the win. They got the goal in the final seconds courtesy of Raphael Dwamena but to the surprise of the Black Stars bench, referee Benett disallowed it.
Bennett ruled for offside but replays showed that Dwamena was onside when he tucked the ball into the net, much to the dismay of Hudson who slammed the centerman.
#Ghana eliminated from World Cup thanks to a HORRENDOUS,SCANDALOUS offside decision in last seconds! @ghanafaofficial you were robbed!
