The Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi has taken delivery of a new Enzyme-Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay (ELISA) machine.
The ELISA machine will greatly enhance the capacity of the hospital’s blood service team to effectively screen blood brought to the health facility from various parts of the region.
With the acquisition of the new machine, the hospital, which serves as the only referral center in the Western and Western North regions, can now screen blood to determine whether it is free from diseases such as syphilis, hepatitis B, H.I.V and gonorrhea.
This was contained in an article posted on the hospital’s website.
The article indicated that blood screening is a vital laboratory service, and as per the National Blood Transfusion Policy, all transfused blood must undergo screening using the nationally approved standard.
It explained a high-quality laboratory services plays a crucial role in shaping global clinical decisions.
It said they also serve as a functional element for diagnosing, treating, caring, preventing and controlling diseases.
“The hospital therefore invites all peripheral facilities to seize the opportunity by submitting transfused blood for screening at a reasonable cost,” it said.
