The injunction filed by an Alumnus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) against the extension of the term of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Rita Akosua Dickson has been dismissed on the basis that the injunction lacks merit.
The judge who presided over the case questioned the status of the applicant who had told the court that he was an Alumnus.
The court also said the applicant failed to convince the court that he was an Alumnus of the University when he tendered in purported university statutes.
The court later awarded a cost of GHC9000 against the applicant
Shortly after the court dismissed the application, the applicant expressed dissatisfaction with the court’s ruling and filed another suit to overturn the verdict of the court.
“I’m dissatisfied with the ruling of the court.”
Just as the bailiff was about to serve the university lawyers, a standoff erupted as the lawyers of the KNUST VC rejected the service, insisting that the university be served formally.
The University Relations Officer of KNUST, Dr. Noris Bekoe expressed satisfaction about the court’s ruling and indicated any issues against the extension of the VC’s term be addressed amicably.
“We are very happy about the outcome of what happened today, it gives us relief, and the university can proceed peacefully, it means the vice chancellor can take office on August 1, and continue to work.
“The entire university was in court, it’s a big relief for us that this matter has been put to rest. We want to thank the university community for their patience. I want to ask for restraint, let cool heads prevail. All aggrieved persons should come to the university, we’re ready to listen.”
Meanwhile, another injunction has been filed by a staff of the University against the extension of the term of the Vice Chancellor on the basis of legalities.
