Justmoh Construction Limited has advised travellers using Apremdo Bridge on the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta road to disregard claims that the bridge will be closed.
“We have no intention of closing the steel bridge, as construction on the new concrete bridge is ongoing and scheduled for completion by mid-March 2025,” stated Johan Prinsloo, Project Manager-Justmoh Construction.
Speaking to media at Apremdo near Takoradi, he refuted social media reports suggesting an imminent road closure – explaining that upon completion of the new bridge, all traffic will be redirected onto it; allowing for the old steel bridge’s dismantling to ease traffic flow.
Providing an update on the project, Mr. Prinsloo noted that construction from the PTC roundabout to Apremdo is 50 percent complete. “We are on schedule and, as you can see, there is no longer traffic congestion on the road,” he said.
Addressing concerns over dust on the stretch, he assured that the company is watering the road five to six times daily. However, he attributed the persistent dust to high temperatures which cause rapid evaporation and urged commuters to bear with the situation.
General Manager-Justmoh Construction, Stephen Hammond, disclosed that the contractor had initially planned to create an easy bypass at the Apremdo main bridge to facilitate traffic flow, but that was not feasible.
He commended the public for their patience and cooperation despite the challenges.
About the road project
The 23-kilometre Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta road serves as a critical link between Takoradi Port and the mining and agricultural hubs of Western and Western North Regions. It also connects to the Agona Nkwanta-Elubo road, facilitating trade between Ghana and Ivory Coast.
The scope of work includes rehabilitating a 3.8-kilometre dualised section from Takoradi to Apremdo, constructing two major bridges at Ewusiejoe and Apremdo, adding lanes to dualise the stretch from Apremdo to Agona Nkwanta and building culverts, walkways and medians.
