Sulemanu Iddrisu, a 35-year-old man, was crushed to death, Wednesday morning as the commercial motorcycle, popularly known as 'Okada', he was ridding as passenger, rammed into an articulator truck carrying sawn timber at Ayigbe Town, in Accra.
Iddrisu was crushed to death instantly when he was trapped between the rear tyres and ran over by the Mann Diesel truck with registration number GT-7158-11.
The loaded truck was heading towards the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital area when the gory accident occurred.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kofi Amaniapong, in charge of the Korle Bu Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), who confirmed the accident to the Ghanaian Times yesterday in Accra, and said the deceased, had been deposited at the Korle Bu mortuary.
He explained in a telephone interview with the Ghanaian Times that the loaded truck had crossed the Abossey Okai Traffic Light when the motorcycle carrying Iddrisu as passenger rammed into the back of the truck, which was in motion on, Wednesday, June 5, 2019.
DSP Amaniapong said bystanders and motorists raised the alarm, and the truck driver stopped and realised that someone had been crushed to death, but the 'okada' rider, Abu Moro Maiga, 34, escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile the driver of the truck, who had been arraigned before court and granted bail, would reappear in court on June 20.
