
The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, held a meeting with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees Country Director, Madam Needa Jehu-Mazou, at his office in Accra.
The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and UNHCR in addressing the needs of refugees and host communities in Ghana.
During the meeting, Alhaji Muntaka expressed his sincere appreciation for the critical work done by UNHCR in supporting the Ghana Refugee Board in refugee management and assistance to host communities.
He acknowledged the organization’s efforts in providing protection, assistance, and promoting self-reliance among refugees, and assured Madam Jehu-Mazou of his full support to enable UNHCR to better carry out its work in Ghana.
The Minister also explored potential partnership opportunities with UNHCR, particularly in the Prison Industry Hub and Prison Agricultural Project.
He highlighted the potential benefits of collaboration in these areas, including the promotion of economic empowerment, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.
He expressed interest in leveraging UNHCR’s expertise in agribusiness and entrepreneurship to support the development of sustainable agricultural projects in Ghana’s prisons.
Madam Needa Jehu-Mazou briefed the Minister on the progress of the Agribusiness project for refugees in Ghana, highlighting the organization’s efforts to promote self-reliance and economic empowerment among refugee populations.
She noted that the project has enabled refugees to develop their skills in agriculture and entrepreneurship, and has contributed to their overall well-being and dignity.
