
The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations has urged all customers of MTN to remain calm after its attention was drawn to a cyber breach affecting about 5,700 MTN customers.
The Ministry said it is working to establish if there are any breaches on the part of the Mobile Network Operator.
“The Ministry urges all customers to remain calm as we work together to resolve the issue and keep the public updated,” a press release issued in Accra on Tuesday 29th April, 2025 stated.
“The Ministry is working closely with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Data Protection Commission (DPC) to investigate the potential breach,” it assured.
The Ministry explained that, “This collaboration aims to determine the extent of the breach and ensure that necessary measures are taken to protect customer data. The Ministry will ensure that affected customers are contacted in line with Data Protection Laws.”
Earlier, MTN Ghana announced that a recent cybersecurity incident has affected the data of approximately 5,700 of its customers.
In a press release issued on April 28, 2025, MTN Group stated that while their platforms remain fully operational, they are taking the matter seriously and are closely monitoring the situation.
According to the release, MTN is currently working with cybersecurity experts to conduct a thorough forensic investigation to assess the full impact of the incident. The company emphasized that the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of its systems are paramount to its operations and customer service.
