Social media, as many have described, can make or break you. Its influence depends on how you choose to engage with it.
For brands, social media commentary serves as a valuable metric to gauge public opinion. While it may seem like just comments and opinions, in the grand scheme of things, they matter.
Currently, Ghanaian music sensation Kojo Blak is facing backlash for releasing new music just months after his previous track. Many argue that his latest song, “Next Door” featuring Sarkodie, was rushed. They believe his previous track, “Excellent”, has gained significant traction and should remain on the airwaves longer before a new release. According to them, he should focus on promoting “Excellent” to unlock its full potential rather than moving on too quickly.
But do they have a point? Let’s take a closer look.
The Reality of Music Release Strategies
Artists signed to record labels often have varying levels of control over their release schedules, depending on their contract terms. Some enjoy full creative freedom, while others follow structured timelines dictated by their labels. However, beyond strategic planning, spontaneous releases have also proven to be highly successful.
Songs like Amerado’s “Kweku Ananse,” Fireboy DML’s “Peru,” and Fameye’s “Very Soon” were all released unexpectedly yet became massive hits. This proves that strategic planning isn’t the only key to success—momentum and timing also play crucial roles.

Kojo Blak’s Consistency Speaks for Itself
A look at Kojo Blak’s discography reveals a consistent release pattern since 2023. That year, he dropped five songs, averaging a new release every two months. In 2024, he released six songs along with his EP, 757, maintaining his steady momentum.
His final release of 2024, “Excellent” featuring Kelvynboy, dropped on December 12 and has since become his biggest hit, nearing one million views on YouTube and amassing millions of streams across platforms. It even became the most Shazamed song in Ghana.
Fast forward to February 26, 2025—Kojo Blak drops his first single of the year, “Next Door” featuring Sarkodie. That’s exactly two months and 14 days after “Excellent”—perfectly in line with his usual release schedule.
Debunking the “Rushed Release” Argument
Critics argue that “Excellent” was still gaining traction and should have been promoted further instead of releasing a new song. However, this argument doesn’t hold because Kojo Blak hasn’t deviated from his usual release pattern.
In the last two years, he has released over 10 tracks, with his biggest hit arriving on his 11th song. Who’s to say that his 12th, 15th, or 20th song won’t be the one to propel him to global stardom?
Kojo Blak isn’t just consistent—he’s strategic in a way that aligns with his brand. His talent has already caught the attention of industry giants like Don Jazzy, who has publicly endorsed him. He is on the right path.
The Bigger Picture
Music is an art, and Kojo Blak understands his career better than anyone outside his creative circle. Instead of debating whether his latest release came too soon, we should channel that energy into supporting his music.
Conversations like this don’t push Ghanaian music forward. If anything, they stifle emerging artists who are striving to put Ghana on the global music map.
Kojo Blak has made no mistake. His vision is clear, and his strategy is working.
Let’s support him, not slow him down.
