
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is mourning the tragic passing of one of its students following an unfortunate incident on campus.
In an official statement, KNUST Management confirmed that Joana Deladem Yabani, a final-year Biological Sciences student, was found lifeless near the Disability and Rehabilitation Centre in the early hours of February 27, 2025.
University Security Services received the report at approximately 5:00 a.m., after which the body was transported to University Health Services, where she was confirmed dead. The University has since informed her family and extended its deepest condolences.
According to the University, a comprehensive investigation is underway in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and University Health Services to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The University assured the community that all necessary measures are being taken to ascertain the facts and ensure campus safety.
KNUST has further urged students and the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this difficult time.
“We wish to assure the university community and the public of our unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of all students and staff,” said Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, Deputy Registrar of the University Relations Office.
