Education Minister and Tamale South MP, Haruna Iddrisu is expecting President Mahama to tell Ghanaians the poor state of the economy he inherited from the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.
Speaking in an interview with TV3 ahead of President Mahama’s first State of the Nation Address, the Minister noted that despite the “sinkhole” economy inherited by President Mahama, he’s confident the President will assure Ghanaians of a stronger economy under his government.
“President Mahama will have to behave like a woman during child’s birth to lay all bare the state of the sinkhole economy he is inheriting.
“The prime responsibility of every President is the safety and security of its citizens and that President Mahama will guarantee for the people of Ghana,” he told TV3’s Eric Mawuena Egbeta.
Haruna Iddrisu admitted that President Mahama’s government has a difficult task ahead to revive the economy.
According to him, to even say that the current state of the economy is “in comatose will be an understatement.”
“The task ahead is herculean so he would have to do everything possible to repute the economy but to do that the Ghanaian people must understand clearly the nature and extent of the debt,” Haruna noted.
President Mahama will deliver his first State of the Nation Address (SONA). The President is expected to address Ghanaians on the current state of the economy as well as highlight his government’s plan to tackle unemployment, corruption, illegal mining and other challenges affecting the country.
