Dr. Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC), Samuel Apea-Danquah of Yellow Ghana, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, have all submitted their presidential nomination forms at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) headquarters.
They submitted their forms on Monday, September 9.
John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) respectively also filed their forms on the same day.
John Mahama’s forms were submitted on his behalf by the National Chairman of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia whereas Dr Bawumia filed his own forms in the company of his running mate Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh and others.
The Electoral Commission (EC) had announced that it formed a team of experts to assess the presidential nomination forms presented by the aspirants to ascertain whether they meet standards.
Chair of the Commission, Madam Jean Adukwei Mensa stated that the aspirants had been given five days to file their forms starting today Monday, September 9.
The five-day period for filing is a deviation from the previous status quo when the aspirants were given two days to do so.
This is to enable them to correct wherever errors that may be detected on their forms, Madam Mensa said when she received the forms of the Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
She assured that the process for the conduct of the general elections will be peaceful, transparent, and fair.
After receiving the forms, she said “We have no doubt that the process will be transparent, fair, and peaceful.”
She added, “Indeed this is the first time a sitting Vice President has personally presented his nomination forms to the EC.”
